What are Drugs?

Drugs are substances taken into the body that change the way the body or mind works.

There are three different types of drugs.

  • Medicines (prescriptive drugs) - These are helpful medicines given to you by a doctor when you are sick. You must follow the directions and/or instructions on the medicine container when taking them or they could do serious harm!
  • Legal/non-prescriptive drugs - These include things like Aspirin, Tylenol, and even cough syrup that are available at the pharmacy. Again, these medicines must be taken following the directions on the label.
  • Illegal or street/harmful drugs - These are the drugs not categorized in the other two sections. Say NO to these drugs as they can cause very serious harm to your body and can even be fatal. Harmful drugs have absolutely no medicinal purpose or real value. Most street drugs have laws that prohibit their possession.
